From Struggles to Strength: My Journey of Redemption
About Me:
Hello, I’m Ebony Kelly Nelder, a resilient Sydney local committed to becoming a better version of myself every day. My story is one of overcoming deep struggles to rebuild a life of purpose, strength, and unbreakable family bonds, with the unwavering support of my circle family & friends who’s stood by me through every high & low of starting over after jail & addiction.
My Struggles:
Life threw heavy challenges my way, but they’ve shaped who I am today. I battled drug addiction for 8 years, faced run ins with the law leading to an 8 year sentence (including 5 years in custody), and made the painful choice to have my daughter go and live with her family due to me poor decision.
My Childhood:
For me growing up wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t easy either. I don’t blame my childhood for the way life turned out for me. Although I do not blame anything from my upbringing & for my life choices, I would say there are some factors that did contribute to the way things played out for me.
Turning points
Whilst in custody, I realised I had 1 of 2 options.
Option 1 – Continue on the path I was on
OR
Option 2 – Pull up my socks and make something of my life I could be proud of.
I went with Option 2 & I’ve never looked back. It hasn’t been easy, but nothing worth having in life is ever easy.
Later in Life
At 33 years old I received a diagnosis of ADHD & Autism, finally explaining years of inner struggles and making sense of my past chaos. Now, over 7 years clean from drugs and crime, I’ve rebuilt a life stronger than ever. My daughter & I share the deepest bond, forged through every up & down. We’re proof that love endures.
Better Every Day
Today, at almost 34 years of age, I focus on growth, Drawing from my past experience and turning it into personal wins, family, and helping others see that redemption is real. No longer defined by yesterday, I’m living proof that second chances lead to the best versions of ourselves. Let’s connect if my journey inspires you.
